Reliable Optical Connection The DFE-551FX adapter allows you to establish a reliable connection to your computer via an optical link. It can be used to control the power of a workstation or server from a Fast Ethernet switch over a fiber optic connection. With a data transfer rate of 200 Mbps in full duplex mode, this card performs well in environments with high electromagnetic interference, providing a connection to a switch located up to 2 km away using a multimode optical cable. Wake-On-LAN for Power Management Wake-On-LAN (WOL) is an Advanced Configuration Power Interface (ACPI) feature that allows you to remotely power on/off a computer that is turned off. With this feature, the network administrator can send "wake-up" signals that wake up the computer. The WOL function provides users with an excellent opportunity to manage PC power at any time and from anywhere. High performance Working in the Bus Master mode of the 32-bit PCI bus, the adapter guarantees high performance. The Bus Master mode allows you to transfer data bypassing the central processor, which makes it possible to unload it for the execution of application programs. Flow Control to Minimize Packet Loss The adapter supports built-in flow control to help protect data while it is in transit over the network. When connected to a Fast Ethernet switch that supports flow control, the adapter receives buffer overflow signals from it during peak periods. The adapter then delays transmitting data until it receives a signal from the switch that it is ready to receive data. VLAN for improved performance and reliability The NIC supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, allowing you to create multiple subnets for each server or computer and isolate devices within each VLAN from the rest of the network to improve security and traffic control. IEEE 802.1p priority queuing support The adapter supports 802.1p priority queuing, allowing latency-sensitive applications such as audio and video streaming and VoIP to be transmitted over the network with appropriate priority. 2 RPL and PXE Remote Boot Options Network administrators can choose from 2 secure remote boot schemes from diskless workstation servers: 1) using RPL (Remote Program Load) DFE-551P or 2) PXE (Pre-boot Execution Environment) Intel DFE-551R. Workstations with boot ROMs installed in the appropriate adapter slot can boot the operating system remotely from a NetWare server, Windows NT server, or other servers.
